A change of perspective when talking about Innovation in Education

What do we mean by Innovation in Education? They are two notions that seems intrinsically linked to some of us and yet far removed for others. Are we talking about new technological tools for the classroom? Or new ways of teaching like the blended learning approach or flipped classrooms?

What do we mean by Innovation in Education? They are two notions that seems intrinsically linked to some of us and yet far removed for others. Are we talking about new technological tools for the classroom? Or new ways of teaching like the blended learning approach or flipped classrooms?

There is no right answer. All actors in education — from learners and educators to policy makers and pedagogues — understand it differently. Often the voice of innovation in education comes from entrepreneurs and experts in pedagogy. But what about teachers? They are the ones who have to find alternative ways to engage learners and adapt content in the classroom on a daily basis because of complex content, fewer resources or learners with differing challenges.

Innovation in education brings alternative solutions, but not all teachers have access to technological innovations or find the answers they need. As a result, they develop their own tailor made innovative solutions. To really harness this creative power, it is crucial that all these ideas, experience and points of view are brought together to jointly design sound and innovative solutions to educational challenges.

Co-creation is the key! So, on 21 November within the framework of the Global EdTech Startups Awards - targeting worldwide Edtech startups -, P.A.U. Education, in partnership with Pompeu Fabra University, is organising an event where innovation experts, entrepreneurs and teachers meet to discuss and further Innovation in Education.

The day will include a Masterclass by Hanoch Piven as well as teachers’ testimonials about how they perceive innovation in education and which innovative initiatives they implement.
